Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment (also known as Endodontics) may be recommended when the tooth pulp becomes infected due to tooth decay or even damage as a result of injury to the mouth. If the infection is left untreated, it may spread through the root canal system of the tooth and cause an abscess and intense and uncomfortable pain. If treatment is not carried out, the tooth may need to be extracted. Root Canal treatment is an effective and safe way of saving the tooth.
Dr Missankov and Dr Vasiliki are both highly experienced in root canal therapy and technique. Root canal treatment is a highly skilled procedure and often requires two appointments to complete. Once you have been numbed with a local anaesthetic, the root is cleaned and filled to prevent infection spreading. The tooth is then sealed with a temporary filling and left to settle for up to 6 weeks. When it is certain that all infection has been cleared, the dentist may advise you to either have a crown or permanent filling placed on the treated tooth.
Crowns
A crown is a type of dental restoration used to fix a broken tooth, to cover and support a tooth with a large filling, to hold a dental bridge and for cosmetic modification. A crown fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, strengthening the tooth and giving the tooth a natural appearance. A crown will sometimes need to be fitted after a root canal treatment. There are various choice of crowns on offer: Emax, Porcelain and Zirconia.
